Can gold and silver be worn together

A favorite jewelry box, with gold and silver jewelry lovingly arranged in soft nests. You probably have one of those. And how do you choose what to wear today? On what principle? It is clear that jewelry is selected to the outfit, eye color, makeup, but the question is about something else – about appropriateness. Chains, bracelets, rings and earrings made of silver – for every day, and gold – on special occasions, right? But sometimes it sure feels like wearing both together. Is it possible to wear gold and silver at the same time or should you not? Let’s find out.

Why it is considered that gold and silver can not be worn together

Until recently, wearing gold and silver jewelry together was considered an absolute taboo and a mauvais. Looking ahead, let’s say that the situation is gradually changing, and these changes were initiated by daredevil jewelers, who are not able to overcome any taboos. In the meantime, let’s go back a few years and listen to the arguments that were used to explain why you can not wear gold and silver at the same time.

Argument one, esoteric

Since ancient times it is believed that both of these metals are dedicated to different celestial luminaries: silver – the Moon, and gold – the Sun. Accordingly, they have diametrically opposite energies, and they have a different effect on a person in contact with his skin. Thus, it was believed that the “lunar” metal with a cold luster calms the nervous system, “solar” – “hot”, it excites it. Yin and Yang, feminine and masculine, cool and scalding. So, a person who asks himself the question, whether you can wear gold with silver, must decide whether he is ready to constantly swing on emotional swings, experience mood swings, stress, and then something worse. After all, all diseases are caused by nerves.

It is difficult to assert the validity of this argument: esotericism is an area where it is problematic to separate the real from the prejudices. But if we ask the opinion of more exact sciences, we will hear that both metals have similar potentials, and they are located in the same group of the Mendeleev table. Therefore, their energy incompatibility causes a person ignorant in esotericism some bewilderment.

Argument two, practical

The question, why do not wear gold with silver, has a purely practical component. Silver is harder than its counterpart in the Mendeleev table. This means that it can leave dents, scratches and other annoying things that will require a visit to a jeweler to correct. It’s hard to argue with that argument, but why not combine jewelry so that it doesn’t come into contact with each other or comes into contact minimally? After all, a tandem of bracelets made of different metals on one fragile female wrist looks fantastically attractive and mesmerizing.

Argument three, stylistic

It is believed that metals have different aesthetic impact. Gold – luxury, wealth, royalty; silver – simpler, cheaper, looks not so spectacular. To mix them in one image is to bring imbalance into it, to make it inarticulate and incomprehensible. Fortunately, this argument is also gradually becoming an atavism. Modern stylists say that gold and silver can be worn together. The main thing is to follow simple rules, and your image from such a neighborhood will not fade a bit, but will only sparkle with new, interesting facets. But about the rules below.

Argument four, medical

Medics also do not see any problem in the joint wearing of two precious metals, and on esoteric-energetic objections only snort. The only one who is against the neighborhood of silver and gold is dentists. But only when it comes to dentures and oxidative processes.

So wear it?

As you can see, there are no serious arguments against wearing gold and silver at the same time. Modern jewelry designers are creators and creatives who are constantly exploring and trying new horizons. Such a horizon and trend has already become jewelry in which both precious metals coexist perfectly: rings, earrings, brooches, pendants and necklaces. In fashionable products of famous jewelry houses silver and gold not only do not conflict and do not discord, but also emphasize the advantages of each other, creating something unique and inimitable.

If you do not dare to wear such “combined” jewelry yet, but standing over your cherished jewelry box you always wonder whether gold and silver are worn at the same time, the answer is the same – they are. But, as already mentioned, only if certain rules are observed:

  • Rule one. Choose jewelry in the same direction. A graceful gold ring with a classic design next to a massive silver ring in ethnostyle will look ridiculous. At the very least. Very often jewelry houses produce identical pieces or collections in different metals. Identical rings or bracelets of different precious metals – a win-win combination. If you can not yet decide to such a stylistic experiment, start small – try to wear white gold and silver: their shades differ slightly.
  • Rule two. Avoid dense contact between the two metals. For example, do not wear silver and gold rings on neighboring fingers, so that the friction on the gold did not leave dents, scratches, dark spots.
  • Rule three. Properly set accents. So that the metals do not overlap each other, it is desirable that one was dominant. It is generally accepted that in tandem gold jewelry should be more massive than silver jewelry. But it is important to keep the balance.
