This is due to both oxidation of the ligatures (additives to gold that provide its hardness) and general contamination. Sweat, greasy skin secretions, dirt, detergent residues, cosmetics – all this gradually accumulates on jewelry and deprives it of its former luster. Cleaning gold with ammonia

Ouranalcohol is able not only to bring a person, but also gold jewelry. To do this, follow the points below.

  • Dissolve 5-7 drops of ammonia in a glass of water.
  • Dip the gold jewelry in the solution for 30 minutes.
  • Take out the piece and rinse it under running water.
  • Wipe the jewelry to dry, and then wipe with a special cloth made of microfiber, felt or flannel to shine.

Please note! Naphtha alcohol has a pungent odor. When cleaning gold with it, do not forget to ventilate the room well!

Table vinegar

This method is suitable for cleaning gold jewelry made of yellow and red gold without any inserts.

Pay attention! It is not recommended to clean white gold with vinegar.

  • Make a vinegar solution. To do this, mix 1 part of water with 1 part of 9% table vinegar.
  • Dip the item in the solution for 5-10 minutes.
  • Take out the jewelry and rinse it under the tap with warm water.
  • Dry and wipe the piece with a microfiber, felt or flannel cloth until shiny.

Toothpaste

Take toothpaste without any additives. Avoid using whitening toothpaste as it contains abrasive particles that can scratch the metal. A colorless gel toothpaste is the optimal choice.

  • Apply the paste to a cloth napkin.
  • Rub the item with the cloth in gentle circular motions.
  • Rinse the jewelry from the paste under running water.
  • Wipe the gold piece dry and then wipe with a microfiber, felt or flannel cloth until shiny.

Hydrogen Peroxide

You will need 3% hydrogen peroxide, drugstore ammonia and liquid soap.

  • Mix 250 ml of water, 30 ml of hydrogen peroxide, 1 teaspoon of ammonia and 1 teaspoon of liquid soap.
  • Soak the jewelry piece in the mixture for 3-5 hours.
  • Rinse the jewelry under the tap.
  • Wipe the piece dry, and then wipe it with a microfiber, felt or flannel cloth to shine.

Another variant of the composition with hydrogen peroxide:

  • Mix 250 ml of water with 2-3 teaspoons of hydrogen peroxide and 1.5 teaspoons of liquid soap.
  • Put the gold jewelry in the solution for 20-30 minutes.
  • Rinse the piece under running water.
  • Dry the jewelry (or wipe it dry) and wipe it with a microfiber, felt or flannel cloth until it shines.

Cleaning gold with GOI paste

GOI paste is a special tool for polishing metals, developed by the State Optical Institute (abbreviated GOI). There are several pastes with numbers from 1 to 4. Numbers 3 and 4 has rather large particles, they are not suitable for cleaning gold. Numbers 1 and 2 help to polish the metal to a mirror effect. It is enough to apply the paste on a cloth and rub it on the gold jewelry. After processing the product should be rinsed under running water and wiped dry.

Please note! GOI paste is suitable only for cleaning red and yellow gold without inlays! White gold and inlaid items cannot be cleaned with this paste.

Cleaning with contact lens cleaner

Lens storage medium is another non-banal option for cleaning gold. It is necessary to soak the jewelry in it for 1-2 hours: it will dissolve all protein deposits. After – just rinse the jewelry under running water and wipe with a cloth made of microfiber, felt or flannel.

Cleaning gold with citric acid

Cleaning with citric acid is recommended for red or yellow gold jewelry.

  • Dissolve 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid in 200 ml of water. Make sure the crystals are completely dissolved!
  • Soak the gold earrings, rings or chain for 5-7 minutes in the solution.
  • Rinse the jewelry under the tap.
  • Dry the gold piece or wipe it dry. After that, wipe it with a microfiber, felt or flannel cloth for shine.

Please note! It is impossible to clean white gold products with citric acid.

Cleaning gold with alcohol

Ordinary medical alcohol is applied to a cotton disk and wipe the product. So you can clean a piece of jewelry made of yellow, red or white gold with or without inlays. After treatment with alcohol, the jewelry is washed with clean water, wiped dry and rubbed to a shine with a cloth made of microfiber, felt or flannel.

For complex jewelry, openwork or composite, such as chains, you can use a water-alcohol solution. Alcohol and water are mixed 1 to 1 and soak the jewelry in it for a few minutes. After – be sure to rinse with water.

How to clean gold “Faerie”

Dishwashing detergent known to everyone brand perfectly breaks down grease. On many sites you can find advice to boil jewelry with the addition of this means. We do not recommend using such aggressive methods. Soaking is safer.

  • Make a solution by mixing 200 ml of water, 1 teaspoon of Faerie, 1 teaspoon of ammonia and 40 ml of hydrogen peroxide. Mix well.
  • Soak the jewelry in the solution for 10-20 minutes.
  • Take the jewelry out, rinse it under running water.
  • Dry and wipe with a microfiber, felt or flannel cloth.

How to clean gold with Mystik powder

Biotrim Mystik is a cleaning powder from the network company Greenway. The manufacturer claims that the product works effectively on glass, crystal, teapots, coffee makers, porcelain and even helps to remove stains from things. Among the spheres of application – cleaning jewelry, including gold and with stones.

  • For cleaning, you will need to dilute 1 teaspoon of the product in 1 cup of hot water.
  • Put the jewelry in the solution. Time explication – from 5 to 15 minutes.

Cleaning white gold with sugar

White gold jewelry, including jewelry with stones, can be cleaned with a weak sugar solution. To do this:

  • Mix 2-3 teaspoons of sugar with 250 ml of water until the crystals dissolve.

  • Rinse it under running water.
