How to choose a diamond ring

Determine your budget

Choosing the color of gold

Despite the fact that the framing of diamonds in white gold is considered a classic, many representatives of the fair sex prefer yellow and red metal. Optimally, if the ring will be made of gold of the same color as other jewelry (earrings, chain, bracelets) of the future owner of the ring.

Selecting the style of the ring

The overall style of the ring is another important characteristic. It should be combined with other jewelry, as well as harmonize with the image of the owner. Define the characteristics of the diamond

The main characteristics of a diamond have a significant impact on the cost of a ring. These include the shape and quality of the cut, clarity, color and carat (weight) of the stone.

Cut quality

Can be A – high, B – good, C – medium, D – low. The higher the quality of cut, the higher the price. However, visually the difference between A and B is not noticeable.

Purity of the stone

For diamonds weighing more than 0.3 carats, the following scale is used:

• 1 – perfectly clean stones;
• 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 – inclusions that are invisible to the naked eye;
• 7a, 8 – small inclusions visible to the naked eye;
• 9, 10, 11, 12 – stones with visible inclusions.

If you are on a tight budget, you can safely choose stones with a clarity of 5-7. It is impossible for an average person to distinguish them from “3” or “4”, and the price will be lower.

Color

The color of a diamond ranges from colorless to yellow or brownish tones.

• 1, 2, 3, 4 – no tint;
• 5, 6, 6-1, 7 – stones with minimal tint;
• 8-1, 8-2, 8-3, 8-4, 8-5 – diamonds with a yellowish tint;
• 9-1, 9-2, 9-3, 9-4 – stones with a brownish tint.

The closer the color is to one, the higher the price of the stone. For the average person, diamonds from 2 to 7 look almost the same.

Diamond weight

It is measured in carats. There are 3 main groups:

• Small – up to 0.29 carats;
• Medium – from 0.3 to 0.99 carats;
• Large – from 1 carat.

When moving from group to group, the price increases greatly. Therefore, to save money, it is optimal to choose stones in 0.29 or 0.99 carats. They will be much cheaper than in 0.3 and 1 respectively. At the same time, it is impossible to detect differences of 0.01 carats “by eye”.

Ring Size

Finally, if you are purchasing a piece of jewelry as a gift, it is important not to get the size wrong. To do this, you can resort to the “help of the hall”: ask a friend or the mother of the recipient of the presentation. Another option is to discreetly take the ring of your favorite, try it on your finger and draw a line on the skin with a pen or marker. If the recipient of the gift has many rings, you can discreetly borrow one of the jewelry and go to the salon with it.

Jewelry stores have special bundles of samples that help you decide on the size. If you made a line on your own finger – just find the size that will coincide with it. A temporarily “rented” ring will simply need to be compared to the samples.

Take into account that on large fingers (size 19 and above) look better quite weighty rings. If you choose a piece of jewelry for thin fingers (size 18 and smaller) – you can safely look even very thin and graceful models.
