At the mention of diamonds, we most often imagine the classics – colorless round-cut stones. In fact, everything is more interesting: there are not only different shapes of diamonds, but also many fancy colors, which are not inferior in attractiveness to the usual variants. An example is yellow diamonds. They are not as rare as, for example, pink or blue ones, but they are much less numerous than colorless ones.

The yellow color in stones arises due to the nitrogen content: the more intensively the carbon from which the diamond is formed absorbs nitrogen, the more pronounced the hue becomes. The other properties of yellow diamonds are the same as those of colorless diamonds. They are just as strong and reflect light rays.

And if, for example, black diamonds do not have a clarity rating (it’s simple – you can see nothing in them anyway), yellow diamonds have this criterion.

Note that under yellow diamonds we understand two 2 types of stone. The first refers to fancy yellow colored diamonds. They come in different shades – from light yellow to saturated. The more saturated and uniform the color of the stone, the more expensive it is. In the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) classification, these shades are referred to as light yellow, yellow, intense yellow, vivid yellow, and others.

The second type is stones with a yellow tint. These are those specimens whose color is designated from 8-1 to 8-5. They are commonly referred to as “Cape” series diamonds.

When looking at such a stone, even a person far from gemology will recognize a clear yellow hue.

We are talking about them for a reason. “Cape”, being cheaper than a really yellow diamond, in skillful hands looks no worse. The visual color of the stone is strongly influenced by the color of the cast it is set in: a cape diamond in a yellow gold setting becomes brighter.

Otherwise, yellow diamonds give your imagination a lot of space – they look great in rings, necklaces and earrings. Moreover, their unusual color makes them a good option not only for exclusive luxury products, but also for jewelry for every day, for example, pousset earrings.
